Wardrobe Essentials

My style is kind of preppy/minimalist, and I stick to black, white, navy and a splash of colour in accessories on most days. I wouldn't call myself the most daring individual when it comes to fashion, I like to stick to what I know I look good in.

This is my personal list of what I think every girl should have in her closet. These essentials never go out of fashion and can be paired with almost anything. They are the go-to items you should own that will never let you down. Make sure that you invest in good quality pieces that fit perfectly, and buy cheaper seasonal accessories to accompany them.

The White Shirt
This goes without saying, top of the list! A crisp white shirt is without fail the most important item to own. It goes with anything and everything and can be tucked in, layered or accessorized. You will look instantly classy, and effortlessly stylish.

The Nude Heels
Nude heels are not only simple and sophisticated, they make your legs look longer which is just fantastic. I have two pairs, one wedge pair and another stiletto pair. Make sure you find a comfortable pair that isn't too high. These go perfectly with ankle-grazer pants for that 'legs for days' look.

The Striped Top
Aka the 'breton top', this nautical classic goes back to the days of Coco Chanel who was inspired by sailors in striped t-shirts. This style has lasted through the ages and will always be considered a staple. Try opt for thinner stripes as they are more flattering. Blue and white or black and white are always a good choice.

The Black Blazer
This is one of those extremely versatile items that is both useful and flattering. Pair it with an evening dress and it keeps you warm and formal, worn with boyfriend jeans and you're casually chic. The loose boyfriend style is the most popular, as well as the short cut 'tuxedo' style.

The Perfect Jeans
Somewhere out there is the perfect pair of jeans, and they are by no means easy to find. That medium to dark wash pair that fits in all the right places and always makes your butt look good. Most women have about four or more pairs of jeans, but make sure at least one pair is simple, classy and the right cut.

The LBD
The LBD has stood the test of time, and I think this is because women of any shape and size will always look good in the perfect black cocktail dress. Find what suits you, whether its empire line or cinched at the waste. From work functions to dinner parties, every girl needs a LBD!

Leopard Print
There is something daring yet classy about leopard print- you just have to make sure that you get the right print to avoid looking cheap. Keep to the basic black and brown print (no pink or blue pleaaaase) and choose neutral colours in the rest of your outfit. If you want a more low-key look try leopard print loafers or a nice print scarf paired with neutrals.

The leather jacket
The leather jacket is an essential because it is like the sexier version of the blazer. Leather jackets are perfect with an all-black outfit or a summer dress, and they add an edge to any look. This is one item that you shouldn't feel guilty for spending a decent amount of money on as it could last decades if well looked after!
