The over-sized purse

So I need to make a confession- I HATE HANDBAGS! I don't know if that makes me strange or any less of a girl, but to me there is nothing more irritating than lugging a bunch of crap around, and carrying it on my shoulder. When you think about it, its quite unnecessary to need half the contents of your drawers with you everywhere you go. The kinds of things women insist on keeping in their bags on the reg are actually frightening.

I have come up with a solution that is stylish and effective at the same time. Over-sized purses are the perfect way to keep the bare essentials with you, nothing more. What else do you need other than your money, cellphone, car keys and maybe a lipstick? Gone are the days when clutches and large purses only come out at night- we are bringing them back to day time casual chic.

Inexpensive Christmas gifts

Working in a newspaper printing company has really opened my eyes to the extent that people go to spend money during Christmas season. The sheer mass of advert increases in the months of November and December just proves the fact that the Christian society of people that celebrate Christmas are conditioned to accept the fact that they are going to spend exorbitant amounts of money this holiday. Well I am here to say that it doesn't have to be that way!

Yes we all love to eat and drink more than we would any other time of the year, and that's okay, but spending ridiculous amounts of money on Christmas presents for every friend and family member is unnecessary. I have always found that the more sentimental a gift is, the more memorable it is, and those DIY or well-thought out gifts are better than costly electronics or jewelry if you ask me (shocking, I know). We all go on about how Christmas is more about our religion and less about presents, so why not prove it by scaling down? Lets instead put more time and energy into gifting this year- I know I am! Here are some gift ideas that are both creative and inexpensive.

So Yesterday Volume 2

This is another update of what is no longer in fashion. Some trends we are sad to see go and others we wave goodbye to happily! I have mixed emotions about these, but they are pretty much done and dusted. Here is what you should stop wearing (or maybe hold onto for a future retro fashion moment).

Sneaker Wedges

I love all kinds of shoes, and I would be lying if I said I didn't feel inspired the first time I saw Beyonce wearing a pair in her music video 'Love on top'. I just had to have them! For some reason I got a mint green pair, which kind of went with nothing in my closet but oh well...sneaker wedges are out! When you think about it, they actually are quite a strange form of sneaker shaped heel. It is also confusing as to how you style them and what you wear them with so as not to look like you belong to a gang. Bye-bye sneaker wedges!

Types of guys at the club

I have moved away from the club scene since starting a full time job and growing out of all those antics, but that doesn't mean I don't know a thing or two about the stereotypical guys that you will find at any given club on any given night out. For all those single ladies out there trying to suss out the situation as you walk into that dimly lit club with flowing drinks and loose inhibitions, this is my interpretation of the guys at the club that you should attempt to avoid or at least observe for a laugh.

Shoulders out

Follow my blog with Bloglovin

The off the shoulder trend is such a fun way of dressing up or down for summer, plus you get to keep cool and show off some skin! I am loving all the feminine trends coming up for summer and this is definitely one of the more exciting options. I have seen these tops and dresses in stores everywhere! Find a style and cut that suits you and show those shoulders.

Why men and women can't be friends

Oh did I get your attention with that title? I hope so, but let me explain myself. I'ts not to say that men and women don't have the capacity to be friends, I merely think that we are not able to be close friends without complications. This is something that I have only recently figured out, and my observations are my personal opinion so take it with a pinch of salt. This is what I like to call the 'When Harry met Sally' theory.

Tips for going on Contiki

Going on a Contiki trip is possibly the best decision you could ever make as a young student/adult. It is one of the most affordable ways to travel, and it is extremely well-organised with experienced tour-guides, well-coordinated activities and great value for money in terms of accommodation and food.

I would personally recommend this to anyone wanting to see the world on a budget, and between myself and the friends of mine that have also gone, I have only ever heard positive feedback and tons of epic stories! Since I learnt some things the hard way, and did other things right first time round, I would like to give out some helpful advice to anyone who is thinking of going. There is not much that can go wrong, but make the most of your opportunity by being prepared and having an unforgettable experience!

20 Facts about Me

Just so that you can all get to know me on a more personal level, I thought I would share 20 lil facts about me, Sarah. I am definitely a what you see is what you get kind of girl, so a lot of the time the way I write is the way I think out loud too.

I consider my blog a collection of every day moments and authentic topics that I think about all the time- hence the name 'she thinks like me'. I want this blog to be a place where everyone and anyone can spend some time relating, taking note of, agreeing or disagreeing with or just having a look. Whatever you want really! Here goes...

The Bubble Ponytail

The bubble ponytail is so hot right now! What is it, you ask? Think back to those days in junior school when tying a whole lot of elastics in your hair was cool. I sometimes have those mornings before work when my hair just isn't cooperating (this actually happens more often than not) and the bubble pony is the perfect way to tame it. The best way to wear this trend is to use a few strands of your own hair to twist around and cover the main elastic band. This style can be worn in a fun relaxed version during the day, paired with a pretty summer dress, or it can be dramatically done up with an LBD for an evening look.

Moving on

Our family are what you would consider 'modern day nomads' to a lesser extent. My parents build and sell houses, and we have lived in over 14 different homes in 4 different cities. This may seem exhausting, unsettling and stressful (and believe me it is all of these things), but moving from one place to another so often has taught me many valuable life lessons, and shaped who I am as an adult.

French Connection: The Streets of Paris

Paris is an enigma in every possible way, where does one start? The city of love, fashion and art to name a few. It is the epitome of sophistication and architectural history. Paris was the first city I traveled to where everything I imagined it would be, it was. All expectations are fulfilled, there is no need for exaggeration whatsoever...

Dream Closets

Since I can remember it has been a fantasy of mine to have a big walk in closet with shoe racks, good lighting, neat colour coordinated clothing and floor length mirrors. Even when I was little I would try and create extra make shift shelves with scrap pieces of wood and blocks. I always think of that Sex and the City scene when Big surprises Carrie with her new closet and that beautiful pair of midnight blue Manolo's perched on a rack inside. A girl can dream right?

I have gathered up a few dream closets for you all to be in awe of, and other closets that are easily attainable to create on a budget. There are also so many ways of incorporating your clothes and shoes into the decor of your room instead of hiding it away behind cupboards. If you have a fancy pair of stilettos, a cool hat or a statement necklace that is just too pretty to put in a drawer, display them in unique ways on hooks, boxes and shelves. I hope you feel inspired!

Eye print

Style forecast: the eye print trend... unusual, eclectic, fashionable? I am yet to see this trend popping up in department stores but my prediction is that we are going to see a lot of it. Creepy or not, the eye trend is super stylish, so why not be ahead of the game and start searching for items now? I know I am! My favourite is the black and white shift dress with the eye print pattern, very modern and artistic if you ask me. Get involved everyone!

Things to do in Durban

Oh how I adore Durban! Living there for almost three years allowed me to explore one of the most beautiful and vibrant cities of South Africa. It has so much to offer in terms of fulfilling your every need, whether its a day on the beach or a night on the town. I am very inquisitive when it comes to new places, and so I spent my spare time venturing into the unknown and finding seemingly undiscovered gems, and other very popular places. I am here to be your tour guide through Durban's hot spots and secret spots and tell you exactly how you can make the most of your time there, whether you are a resident or a visitor. Welcome to DBN, my city of choice!

1. The Moses Mabidha big swing

If you're like me, and not so keen on bungee jumping head first off a bridge, but you still want an adrenalin pumping experience you will never forget, then go for the big swing at Moses Mabidha Stadium. First you swing upright above the entire length of the field below you, and then you boast that you went on the worlds tallest swing! This is on my bucket list, and I am going to cross it off before the end of this year. For more information on prices and booking, follow this link:

Monochrome Grid

The monochrome grid trend cannot go unnoticed this season. This is one of my personal favorites because I usually always wear black and white, and the grid pattern is easily incorporated into any wardrobe. Because it is a simple pattern, you can accessorize heavily and add pops of colour (monochrome and pink would be the perfect combination). If you want to go the extra style mile, wear a grid pattern skirt/shorts with a matching blazer or crop top and a neutral coloured top- ultimate fashionista!

seriously too awesome

Laced up Heels

Laced up heels are the latest heel trend, as worn by countless celebrities and seen on the runway. They are a very sexy style, and elongate your legs with all that extra skin showing through the laces. Laced up heels are elegant and fashion forward, and a really fun option for those summer nights out. They emphasize your feet by adding detail with the laces, and an edgy finish to any outfit. I would personally go for a beige or black pair, and make sure they are the perfect size because slipping out of them is not an option! Paint your toes a pretty colour and lace up those heels!

All Pink Everything

Fashion Alert!! Pink is the new black-the colour of the season in every shade. Any girl who doesn't follow on this trend will be left in the back seat this summer. Coming from someone who usually sticks to black and white, even I have embraced the pink revolution. It is the girliest and most feminine on the colour wheel, so start looking for your pink items now. You can go full on pink and pastels from head to toe or get some pink accessories to start off with. You decide the dose of pink you can handle! Take some pretty in pink tips from these stylish celebrities.

The mid-length skirt
The 50's inspired Grease skirt is doing its rounds on the catwalk this season, and what better way to combine two trends in one with a pink version like Jessica Alba. They flatter most body types as they emphasize your waist and skim over your hips. Pair it with a crop top or tucked in button-up shirt.

Hangovers- The curse to humankind

Gone are the days of being a young student who bounces right back after a night of binge drinking at the club. On behalf of all the hard-working people out there, I finally understand you. Us corporate grinders are what I refer to as the 'weekend drinkers'. We work a full time job 5 days a week, only to get to Friday and grab a drink out of the fridge faster than we can put our bags down. Aren't we all grown up?

Canvas shoes

It only takes an episode or two of RKOB (Rich Kids of Beverly Hills #obsessed) for me to know that the canvas shoe is this seasons number one shoe trend, other than Birkenstocks. This summer seems to be all about what we are putting on our feet! I have got so excited with the canvas shoe/plimsoll because it is light-weight, comfortable and goes with everythinggg. There are also lots of variations from leopard print to quilted to snake skin. Keds and Vans are the name brand option, but I have seen generic styles at Legit, MRP and Foschini to name a few. Here are some cute styles

Daisy Darling

I am very excited to announce that if you have not yet noticed the daisy trend taking over the fashion world, now you know! Yellow daisies on white or black backgrounds are everywhere. I have never known of summer trends to be as literal as this season with flowers, fruit and bold prints. The daisy is an update from big floral and rose prints, which are always pretty but not as trendy as daisies. Choose from subtle accessories such as cell phone covers and bags to dresses and playsuits. Here are some pretty options to get you involved this summer.

Mermaid Hair

I have always had this obsession with mermaids.-the shell bra's, the long tails, the multi-coloured hair. Lucky for you girls out there who are just as obsessed as I am, the mermaid hair trend is gaining momentum this summer. Whether you are blonde or brunette, choose what shade you would like to go and how much you actually want to colour (whether its the entire head or just the tips). There are a variation of options for getting that mermaid hair look, including chalks and semi-permanent dyes. Coordinate it with your clothing to create an extra chic look. Another fun and feminine summer trend!

What every girl thinks at the gym

Lets talk about the gym. The air-conditioned building full of complicated equipment, dampened t-shirts, water bottles and colourful mini towels. Everyone is there for one reason and one reason only, for their bodies to look better than they already do. Since summer is fast approaching us South Africans, I thought it only fitting to delve into what goes through the mind of an average female whilst at the gym. Its a non-stop analysis of everything and everyone around us, and this is barely scratching the surface.

Why being in a relationship is awesome

I was recently unfortunate enough to have been included in a conversation between a few select males about being unfaithful in their relationships due to boredom. They informed me that cheating is something that most men and women do at some point in a relationship, or at least think about doing, and that I am ignorant if I think otherwise.

Watermelons & Pineapples

If you didn't realise that watermelon and pineapple prints are the hottest trend for summer 2014, where have you been?  Nothing screams 'Its Summer Time!' more than juicy summer fruit, so why not eat it and wear it too! The watermelon and pineapple trend on pretty much everything from sunglasses to t-shirts is happening at the moment. It is fresh and fun, and even one item can completely update and revamp your outfit. I have been stopping myself from buying every random thing that has any fruit resemblance on it. Check out these fun options!

Hi I am Sarah-Jane, but you can call me Sarah. I am currently living and teaching English in Bangkok, Thailand. I've always loved writing, food, travelling and fashion, and figured this is the perfect way for all my passions to collide.

I feel that blogging and writing is an important way of connecting to others in this great big world we live in. This is the inner workings of my mind on a computer screen for all to see. Please feel free to drop me a message, ask a question or just have a look.

I am 23, I am a Leo, I am in love and I am happy.

Superga Love

I have a mild shoe obsession, and when I go shopping I always seem to focus on shoes even when I'm supposed to be looking for something practical. Its the story of my life! What is awesome about Supergas, however, is that they are fashionable AND practical, and therefore I felt that I could not leave the mall without them. My mom even asked me the other day where she could get some from cause she loves the pairs I have. Superga now has so many different shades, textures and styles, and it was not easy for me to narrow it down to one new pair but I finally chose the black ''flatforms'. I am in love! They are so comfortable and well-made, and the extra height doesn't hurt for someone who is vertically challenged like me. Here are some of the new designs.

So Yesterday Volume 1

These trends have had their moment in the sun, but it is now sadly time to say goodbye! I am one of those people that usually avoids being a slave to fashion, but I would be lying if I said I wasn't sad to see some of these go. I am sometimes guilty of stretching out a trend for a bit longer than I should because it suits my personal style or its flattering, but even I know when to let go. They are OUT!

The high-low 'mullet' dress

These dresses and skirts were lots of fun and we got to show off our legs but keep it formal at the same time. I even had my mom make me a mullet party dress before they reached the stores (thank you Pinterest). Personally, I am sick of seeing this trend simply because it was too popular and overdone. Good-bye mullet dress, the party is over.

Birkenstocks

Yes, I am just as surprised as you are! Straight out of Germany, Birkenstocks are in fashion and available everywhere. Most people have taken on the trend with hesitation, but why not join in on the fun and look chic at the same time! I would suggest buying a cheaper pair because they are just as good as the originals. Enjoy these comfortable slip-ons and have fun with the different colours! Whatever you do...  just don't wear them with socks.

8 Signs you should quit your job

"The supreme accomplishment is to blur the lines between work and play"- Arnold J Toynbee

Like I have mentioned before, I could be considered a professional part-time career specialist (completely made-up term) from all the jobs I have had. From being a bartender to an aupair to a personal assistant and promo girl, I have met a lot of people and learnt a lot of things-useful or not.

The gift of higher education

When I finished my final year of high school back in 2009, I had no doubt in my mind that I was going to further my education and study a degree of my choice. My parents had never questioned this notion either, and urged me to continue studying after school.
