Just one night in Monaco

I spent one single night as part of the elite, rich and famous people that make up but a tiny population of the world. By the looks of it, most of them live in Monaco. Before arriving in Monaco, along the French Riviera, we were told that the mystery place we were going to that evening had a dress code that was so strict that you would not gain entry to the building if you did not meet the requirements. This was equally exciting and daunting, but we followed suite.

The Chelsea Boot

Not only is this style of boots named after one of my best friends, it is the most stylish winter shoe for the upcoming cold season. I know South African seasons are pretty much opposite to most of the world, but that doesn't mean to say you can't pair these boots with a cute pair of shorts or a summer dress if you live elsewhere.

The Chelsea boot is known for its small block heel and pull tab at the back, and it was notably designed by Queen Victoria's shoemaker-how much more convincing do you need? I have already seen them advertised on mrp.com, which means there are affordable options too! Get them in black, tan or dark maroon for that edgy winter look, and pair them with tights or skinny jeans tucked in/ folded above. Alexa Chung wears them, so should you.

Bangkok: The Countdown

There are less than 3 weeks left before I depart for Bangkok, Thailand to start teaching English, and I can't explain to you how much is going on in my head right now. It has got to the point where all other forms of inspiration and creativity have evaporated from my brain (including my sense of humour if I'm honest). I am a nightmare to be around lately, and I apologise in advance to family, friends and strangers (the man at the post office on Tuesday) that have been caught in the thunderstorm mood-swing that is Sarah. I feel the necessity to share what is going on in this head of mine in the hopes that it won't explode. It's not pretty...

Mom Jeans

Can you actually believe how retro fashion trends can be sometimes? Not even two decades have passed before the 80s/90s inspired 'Mom Jeans' style has come back. I have not been completely won over just yet, but I can't ignore these comeback jeans anymore. They are high-waisted, they are baggy, and they can easily make you look like a mom if not styled correctly (consider this a warning). I can't help but laugh and think of that Saturday Night Live sketch about 'Mom Jeans'.

Either you can embrace the trend, or ignore it and stick with your skinny jeans. The choice is up to you! As always, keep it simple and pair these jeans with a good belt and a simple white or striped top that can be tucked in to the front. This style works well with heels as it elongates your legs, but if you want to stick to flats go for sneakers and roll up the bottoms.

Confessions of a 'Yes' Girl

I have this terrible affliction, and anyone who knows me would have at one point been on the receiving end. I like to say yes to everything. Let me stop you before you think 'oh good for her, she is adventurous and spontaneous'... um NO. I like to think that I am this carefree and nonchalant individual who seizes every opportunity, but I seldom follow through and it's such a problem in my life. Tell me I'm not the only one!

Italian dreaming: Venice by Gondola

When I arrived in Venezia I never felt more like a tourist in my life. I could have wandered the streets of this beautiful old city with no real plan at all. Everything you see is something new at every turn, and you really feel as if you have gone back in time. I walked and walked until I thought my shoes could give way, admiring the famously elaborate masks and glass goods on display, taking in the smells of fresh produce at the Rialto Bridge Market, and admiring the effortlessly stylish Venetian people. I did a class project on Venice in grade 6, and never would I have thought I would make this project my reality a decade later.
