Hobbyist Cafe

In a city where you are spoilt for choice when it comes to dining out, every so often I come across a hidden gem that makes me want to keep going back. A friend took me for coffee today at the Hobbyist Cafe, which is on her side of the BKK hood in Saphan Taksin. The whole area is a tourist hub due to the main pier of the Chao Phraya River being situated there, so it really caters to every need. This cool coffee shop is no exception!

I was delighted when I first walked into the Hobbyist Cafe. It was a breathe of fresh air and simplicity! Everything about the place is a hipsters dream, from the baseball-bat-shaped door knob to the old dusty books on shelves and the unique menu. The best part about it? Sitting on cushions right on the floor at a cute little table, chilled as anything.

I was pleasantly surprised at the prices of the food and drink, as most western restaurants charge ridiculous prices in Bangkok. I ordered a cappuccino for 75 Baht (which came with cinnamon sprinkled on the top as if these people were reading my mind!) and a chicken toasted sandwhich for the same price. Other items on the menu include fruit smoothies, organic milk, various teas, pasta's and all day breakfast specials. It is one of those places where you are guaranteed a good quality meal and beverage combination.

After a satisfying meal and some good girl gossip we noticed a stack of board games on a table nearby- just when you thought this place couldn't get cooler! Did we sit there for half an hour longer playing Rummikub and reminiscing over our formative years? Why yes we did, and it was fantastic to say the least. The laid back indie music in the background set the mood perfectly, and topped off a great experience at a great coffee shop. Hobbyist Cafe I'll be seeing you!
